What is a “salt pygg”? Salt pyggs are a way to keep salt available for cooking and seasoning without it clumping from any humidity in the air. The salt can be taken from the pygg by hand or by measuring spoon.
The inside of the salt pygg is not glazed – this allows any moisture in the salt to be absorbed by the clay.
And why “pygg”? Pygg was a type of orange clay that Middle Ages potters used to make storage containers.
Salt pyggs are $15 each.
